Art: PreK - Fourth grade students will study the art elements of line, shape, color,
texture, form, space and value. Students will learn the art techniques of drawing,
painting and sculpture. Elementary student artists will engage in a variety of media
including pencil, tempera paint, watercolor paint, oil pastel, paper collage, modeling
clay, plaster, paper mache, and ceramics. Our elementary art classroom is equipped
with a kiln and all students learn the fundamentals of ceramic pottery. Using low fire clay
students learn techniques including pinch pots, coil pots, slab and hand building. They
also understand the varying stages of clay from wet to bisqueware to glazeware. A
yearly art show is held where all students get the opportunity to have their artwork
exhibited for family and friends to admire, boosting their confidence and self-esteem.
